Our Local Governing Body

The Local Governing Body works closely with the Headteacher and Windsor Learning Partnership to ensure the school delivers the best possible educational and pastoral experience for all of our pupils. We do so through:

• Championing a positive school culture and values which seeks to deliver exceptional educational outcomes for all.
• Ensuring accountability for the performance of the school through approving the curriculum, rigorous monitoring of pupils’ academic achievement and progress, and listening to the views of pupils, parents and staff.
• Monitoring the effectiveness of policy and procedures relating to Safeguarding, Health & Safety, SEND, vulnerable pupils and inclusion.

The Local Governing Body meets 6 times per year, with additional individual and focus group visits throughout the year.  The Chair of Governors typically meets with the Headteacher on a fortnightly basis.

How are we constituted?

Windsor Girls’ School is part of the Windsor Learning Partnership, along with Dedworth Green First School, The Windsor Boys’ School, Dedworth Middle School, Clewer Green CE First School and Oakfield First School.

As directed under the WLP Scheme of Delegation, our Local Governing Board is formed by the Headteacher (ex-officio), 2 parent governors, 1 staff governor and 5 community governors. WLP Trustees can choose to appoint additional governors, should they see fit to do so.

Who are we?

Governors have a wide range of skills and experiences which they bring to the role. They seek to adopt an independent view to issues of strategy, performance, the management of resources and the setting of  standards.  All governors are committed to the success of the school and to ensuring that all pupils are given every opportunity to fulfil their potential.

Governor Pen-Portraits:

Kirsti Parsons, Chair of Governors, Community Governor

I have been at Governor at Windsor Girls School since October 2019.  Prior to this I was a Governor and Chair at a local first school for over 10 years.  I have experience in recruiting for senior positions in schools as well as serving on teaching and learning, 6th form, finance and performance management committees. My favourite part about being a Governor is meeting with students and hearing about their experiences at WGS, as well as being part of a team of stakeholders who seek to continually build upon what we offer as a school. Both my daughters came to Windsor Girls School, the eldest graduated last year from Warwick University with a degree in English and Theatre Studies, and the youngest is in her 1st year studying PPE at Lancaster University. I work for a television production company based in Windsor and in my spare time I love to catch up with family and friends and going to concerts and the theatre.

I’ve taught at Windsor Girls’ School for over 17 years and remain passionate about making WGS as accessible and supportive as possible for the girls of our community. As both a teacher of Business Studies and a union representative, I’ve helped launch new qualifications and contributed to fair, meaningful policies that improve staff and student experiences alike.

Helen Griffiths   Parent & Vice-Chair of Governors

I have been a parent Governor at Windsor Girls' School since October 2023 and was nominated Vice-Chair of Governors July 2025. Prior to this, I was a Governor and Vice-Chair at a local first school. I have a daughter currently at Windsor Girls’ School and a son who was a pupil at Windsor Boys’ School. I have a background working in clinical trial data management for a large pharmaceutical company which requires the application of a critical and inquiring mindset. I enjoy being part of the Governing Body and having the opportunity to help shape and continue to strengthen the school and community. In my spare time, I enjoy playing tennis, running, swimming, and going to the theatre.

Kerry Blandin, Parent Governor

I have worked in the education sector for over 20 years with a specialism in curriculum. I have a daughter who attends Windsor Girls’ School and so I have a vested interest in ensuring the school works well for my family and I have a genuine interest in ensuring the same applies for other parents too.

My aim is to use my experience to support the Headteacher and all other stakeholders, in developing new initiatives within our school to maintain and improve standards, including progress and achievement, ensuring our children have the best possible education.

Robert Armiger

I have worked in secondary education for well over twenty years, and am currently Director of Studies at a school in Richmond. I live in Windsor, and both my daughters have been through Windsor Girls’ from Year 9 to sixth form - the younger now being in Year 13 (2026). I seek to bring my experience of teaching and senior leadership to the WGS community to help support the school in its continued mission for Windsor’s young people.

I joined Windsor Girls' School in January 2024. I have been a teacher for over twenty years and I am steadfast in my belief that young people have one chance of obtaining a quality education, and that everything we do as a school should keep this in mind at all times. Exceptional is our aim; each step we take must champion the child on our journey.
